And Roses

R-r-r-roadtrip

Barcelona & Roses & Cadaqués & Figueres & Lagrasse & Saint-Émilion & La Rochelle & Carnac & Nantes.

We got a car from Barcelona to round out the trip. I’ll always be devoted to train travel — the strange, empty stations, through dust and the rain — but the freedom of a road trip is special. You stop at a lot of things you’d never see, or at least never buy a train ticket to. You drive through sheer-sided mountains as it grows dark, through towns without a shop, past lonely houses. You cheer at names on signs and chase maps to their borders. And you bite your nails to the quick, sure, and you shout and go through mountains of snacks, all in the name of road tripping. I do believe it’s worth it.
